An Intimate Philly Wedding

Karey and Sean’s intimate Philly wedding is one I will always remember.   I’ve always taken issue with the articles that name Philly as one of the top 10 most expensive places to get married in America.  Philadelphia weddings don’t have to be in 5 star Center City Hotels, and vendors like photographers don’t charge more to work in Philly than they do anywhere else.  The classic backdrops of the city are no more beautiful and special for $40,000.00 weddings than they are for everyone else. A city rich with artists, outdoor spaces and unique nooks and crannies has tons of fabulous, affordable venues.

The Philadelphia Wedding Chapel is a charming, NY loft style space in East Falls filled with natural light and vintage furnishings that does beautiful, personal weddings starting  from 20 minute elopements.  It’s a special space in the city, perfect for couples who want all the benefits of a Philadelphia wedding, in a more intimate way.  For this shoot I was lucky enough to have 2 full hours for photos with just the couple, which is an absolute dream.  We met at the chapel and then stopped at a few nearby locations including Falls Bridge (a great spot near the chapel for a photo walk), the Museum of Art and Broad Street, before a cozy, sophisticated ceremony for close family and friends at the chapel, and then the couple headed out for a beautiful dinner with their families.

The rain attempted to thwart our photo walk, but as I always tell our brides, we will shoot no matter what the weather.  As long as our couple is willing to brave the elements, so are we.  Some of the most romantic moments take place under the most unromantic conditions and this was a classic example. Karey handled the dreary rain with grace and optimism, and I think her rainy day photos are lovely and timeless. In a sweet short wedding dress, and carrying pink and white bouquet filled with roses and peonies, her clear umbrella was a perfect, whimsical touch.  Our persistence was rewarded with a break in the rain for the rest of the afternoon.  To spend a few hours, dipping in and out of classic philly locations, with two people so in love, whose only agenda for the day is celebrating their love in their own way was a true joy to be a part of.

  • These downtown Philadelphia wedding photos are killer! What an amazing photo walk with stunning backdrops for the bride and groom. Great advice about the Philadelphia Wedding Chapel. It's always great to know local affordable wedding venues. That way you can hire a great photography company like Black White and Raw and still look like you had a million dollar wedding! Great work.

  • I love these wedding photographs! Philadelphia is such a beautiful city to get married in, and your photography is proof of this. My favorite images are of the couple on the bridge, such a beautiful bride and groom, such a beautiful wedding, and of course wonderful photography, as always!

  • This is a beautiful intimate philly wedding, so many great portraits of the bride and groom
